About Lyn Belisle

Artist Statement

I grew up moving from place to place, never rooted in one town or landscape. But my father once told me, “You can always navigate by the stars.” That idea—that you can find your way by looking up, by noticing patterns, by trusting in fragments of light—has shaped not only my life but my creative path.

My work is built from layers: visual echoes, textures, found images, and accidental marks. I begin each piece as a kind of quiet search, following fragments—shards not as broken remnants, but as clues to a whole that once existed. These visual hints emerge from memory, emotion, and the materials themselves. They are echoes, not ruins—breadcrumbs that lead somewhere true.

Through encaustic, collage, fiber, and digital synthesis, I gather and assemble these fragments, letting them speak to each other until a narrative begins to form—not one I impose, but one that reveals itself, like stars aligning in an unfamiliar sky. I am drawn to the beauty in impermanence, the voices of the past, and the stories we carry in our bones.

In the end, every artwork I create is a kind of compass: a way to hold space, to reflect, and to keep moving forward—even when the terrain is unfamiliar. Because the stars are always there. We just have to look up.

  1. Hi Lyn,
I went to Santa Fe recently and visited the Encaustic Art Institute at your blog suggestion. What a delight! The first day I went, the gallery was closed and I peered through the front window. I recognized your work instantly. Thanks so much for the heads up about the exhibit and the Institute.
    More than a fan,
    Kate

  2. Lyn:
Which are the smallest faces you make and sell. I have some of your pieces – but I would like somewhat smaller ones.

  3. Lyn,

Do you have contact information for Don Leonard, George Stone, and Randy Guess? Jim Carpenter wants to lunch with them and me in two weeks and I have the task to contact them and set this up.

  4. Lyn,
Please send me an email. One of our classmates who lives in Colorado will be in town in two weeks and asked me to contact three other classmates for lunch.

  5. I am now not certain where you’re getting your information, however great topic. I must spend a while studying more or working out more. Thank you for magnificent information I used to be searching for this info for my mission.
