Twas the night before . . .

. . .the Herb Garden Tour! I have weeded and mulched and potted – here’s a video of the result – Texas Eclectic is the theme, and that’s pretty much what it is! Now all I need are ticket-buying people to show up in the morning and add to our Scholarship Fund while adding to their herbal and gardening inspiration.
Report to follow.

Gardens and Art

Today is Open Studio – I am still working on small Spirit Faces – nothing like last-minute prep. And . . .next weekend is another big event – the scholarship fundraising Herb Garden Tour. Nice article in today’s Express-News featuring my backyard:

Soul Dolls from MN

I got a wonderful email today from Rue, who had purchased some of the spirit face – look! She’s used them in her beautiful Soul Dolls – I am thrilled to see the places the faces go and how they are transformed. Rue, thanks for a truly wonderful gift of inspiration!

Sunday’s Workshop

Every time I have a workshop here, I swear that it’s the best ever – and, honestly, this one had to be! We all use the same concepts and many of the same materials, but the individual styles just come shining through. Thanks to all who joined me. It was wonderful and I learned a lot, as always, working with such creative people.

Faces and Spirits

Here’s a short video preview of some of the new work that I’ll be showing at the Sept. 15th Open Studio at Alison’s:

But wait, there’s more – Open Studio, Sept 15th!!

Playing with Polymer

Something new, just for fun – I worked with some polymer clay after taking some small molds from little carved bone faces. I had to use polymer clay to hold the detail since earthenware is not fine enough. Here are a couple of results – I love the little round faces! I’ve already used them on some Spirit Boxes and some Shard Pins. The pendant is a cast copy of one that a good friend gave me for my birthday – you can see how the polymer clay retains the details of the original. The one in the photo is the clay copy – looks real!!

A Flock o’ Spirit Boxes

Here are the first five – these little guys are really growing on me – they are kind of addictive to make!

Promo!

Here’s the little promo for the Spirit Box workshop – I made in it a sepia tone – not sure why but it is interesting:

Late Fall Workshops – wow!

The topics for the last three workshops of the year are done, and, wow, I can’t wait. There are two new ones, a transfer workshop and a spirit box workshop. Here’s a sneak preview of the spirit box session:

And here’s the complete schedule – brochure to come next week:

Sunday, October 14 (3-5)
Spirit Boxes – Using the same technique of collage for the small shard pins, we’ll create a mixed-media construction for the top of a spirit box. What goes inside? That’s up to you, but I’ll have some suggestions. Materials, including small boxes, provided. Photos to come.
Sunday, October 28 (3-5)
Transfer Workshop– I’m excited about a technique I just learned using rice paper to transfer photographs and graphics (including old letters) to a collage surface. I’ll share this technique with you and, we’ll make transfers of your photos and then embellish them onto a collage for you to take home and treasure. All materials provided, bring your own photos if you like. Photos to come.
Sunday, November 4 (3-5)
Collage on Canvas – I’m offering a new session of this popular workshop for those of you who want to take it for the first time or repeat it. This one will fill quickly. All materials provided, although you are encouraged to bring the focal image for your own collage. See the video for the Sept. 9th workshop for an intro.
